My Piece And Karen Swyler

I chose to do my sculpture on Karen Swyler because I loved how simple but meaningful her work is. During my time looking for images to reference off off I came upon so many that I saw some sort of message or story to even though the colors were just plain porcelain. To give the sculpture its own identity and not just known as a similar copy of Karen Swyler’s ceramics, I kept the same idea that she used but the form and way the sculptures came to be I changed up a little bit. Most of not all of Swyler’s forms that have a mini copy are always just placed next to each other or stacked where mine I decided to let the copy sit on top of the original and made it even smaller compared to what Swyler usually does. The glaze that Karen Swyler uses for all of her ceramics is porcelain. Porcelain is a white translucent ceramic which is also known as china. She also uses some color in her work which is what I also did in my work to give my piece a little more  meaning. I chose complimentary colors to be the inside of the piece as the outside stayed porcelain. By doing this I hope to give off a message that two things may be the same but it’s what's inside that tells them apart.
